Ullens Education Foundation (UEF) set up Ullens Center for Educator Development- UCED (www.uced.edu.np) in an effort to bring about the much needed reform in school administration and instruction in schools in Nepal through a partnership agreement with Kathmandu University School of education and Bank Street College of Education (USA). A MoU was signed between Bank Street College of Education, Kathmandu University School of Education and Ullens Education Foundation, on March 7, 2008 with the goal of establishing a high quality educator training academy in Nepal- Ullens Center for Educator Development (UCED), in the initiation of Ullens Education Foundation.

The goal of UCED is to provide quality trainings on progressive education to the government school teachers, teachers from private institutions, school leaders and individuals who aspire to be a professional teacher and/or school leader. UCED intends to empower the school leaders and teachers by providing them with the skills and knowledge to properly manage their schools and class rooms while facilitating the learning process. UCED is deeply committed to supporting the Ministry of Education's attempt to bring about much needed reform in school administration, instruction, curriculum, teaching methods etc. in Nepalese schools.

UCED conducted a 5- day leadership lab for twenty school leaders of public and private schools of Nepal and India from Oct 1 to Oct 5 2008 ( Ashwin 15 to 19, 2065 ) at Ullens School, Khumaltar Lalitpur. The workshop was jointly conducted by trainers of UCED Mr. Medin Lamicchane, Mr. Him Lal Ghimire, and Professors from Bank Street College of New York, USA Dr. Rima Shore and Dr. Bernadette Anand. The workshop entitled “School Change: The Transformational Leader” was designed to enhance the leadership capabilities of school principals as well as to expose them to the ideas of progressive education.

UCED conducted a follow-up five day leadership lab for school principals from Jan 19 to Jan 23, 2008 in collaboration with Bank Street College. Prof. Dr. Frank Pignatelli and Dr. Ken Grover conducted the seminar on “Processes of Supervision and Professional Development”. UCED conducted this seminar among 30 school leaders. Almost all the participants of the October leadership lab joined the leadership lab in January, which speaks for the quality of the UCED leadership lab and the effect it has on the participants.
