Som Paneru
The inception of the Ullens Education Foundation is grounded in the passion to provide just and inclusive education opportunities in Nepal, to bring constructive transformation to society. The current Board of Trustees President Mr. Som Paneru, realized that a holistic approach to education, that focuses on a child-centered learning approach, was still much needed in Nepal’s private education sector, to highlight and showcase value for diversity in school bodies. Having managed and run Happy House for many years, he was keen to establish a school with progressive values in education, where teachers and the team had access to global exposure and pedagogy and training. As Nepal was politically entering a phase where the civil war and conflict was coming to an end, many families continued to live in Kathmandu for the sake of their children’s education, but it was questionable if they were getting the type of world-class education that would equip them to become leaders for the increasingly competitive world. In this spirit, along with the Patron Baron Guy Ullens, an initial investment seed fund was placed to begin the Ullens Education Foundation as a non-profit company with the following 3 conditions:
  • The school would have to provide world-class education
  • The school would be run in a self-sufficient model over a course of time
  • The school should maintain greater social responsibility
